Sizing & Safety Considerations

Four feet is the minimum perimeter around a pool for basic access, but if the deck doubles as a patio for entertaining or sunbathing, you’ll want considerably more — outdoor furniture takes up more room than most people expect. Surface color matters too: lighter tones stay cooler underfoot in direct summer sun, which matters when you’re walking on it barefoot. We also pay close attention to coping — avoiding abrasive edges right at the pool line, and often using a contrasting coping color or inset border to visually define the edge of the pool.
